Microsoft 365 - Setting up Microsoft Authenticator

Adding Microsoft Authenticator as Your Default MFA Method

Before you start, please ensure you have your smartphone available with the Microsoft Authenticator app installed. If you do not already have Microsoft Authenticator installed on your phone, download it from:

Setup Steps

  1. On your computer, sign into https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
  2. Click "+ Add sign-in method"
  3. Select "Authenticator app" from the dropdown
  4. Click "Add"
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to:
  • Open the Authenticator app on your phone
  • Tap the "+" icon and select "Work or school account"
  • Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen
  1. Once the QR code is scanned, a 6-digit code will appear in the app
  2. Enter the code on your computer to verify the connection
  3. Click "Done"
Microsoft Authenticator can also be used for passwordless sign-in, providing an even more secure and convenient login experience.
